Common Diseases > Pseudomonas

Bacteria: Gram-negative motile rods. Found in water and decomposing vegetable matter. Some are pathogenic to plants and animals and pseudomonas pyocanea (aeruginosa) is able to produce disease in men.

Found commonly as a secondary invader in urinary tract infections and wound infections. It produces a blue pigment (pycyanin) which colours the pus ( exudate).

Mostly treated with antibiotics.
